Moving Day

In December, the new Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) opened up at the Stollery Children’s Hospital here in Edmonton. I had heard a lot about it and I recently had my first chance to see it in my role as a family mentor.

The second phase of construction at the Stollery involves revamping the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and a couple of family mentors were on hand to help families settle their little warriors into the PCICU while the PICU is under construction.

I brought my camera along just in case an opportunity presented itself and low and behold…

One of the families was willing to oblige, which is wonderful because these photos will be available for the Family Centred Care Network to use in their work showcasing families and staff collaborating to provide the best care for kids.

And, of course, that also means this family gets beautiful photos. Maybe not of what they imagined for their first family shoot, but definitely a part of their story as a family.

Last I heard, this family was on their way to being discharged. Wishing them all the best as they settle in to life at home.
