This past Wednesday was the annual Light the House event at Ronald McDonald House. Unfortunately, traffic around the UofA and the Stollery was ridiculous and this is what I saw when the house was being lit up.
When I finally arrived at the House I was delighted to see how many families I knew either through photography sessions, Families Who Photograph talks and NICU family mentoring. It is so awesome to reconnect with families you have met and connected with. I also found out the big guy was in attendance, which I hadn’t realized was in the works. This Santa was a-ma-zing! He was such a pleasure to photograph and I had a difficult time narrowing down the photos to just my favourites to post. #photographerproblems 😉
As always, some of the kids were ecstatic to see Santa…others not so much, but Santa managed to win over every single one of them! Kids were drawing him pictures and parents were sharing photos of their kids in hospital. I think this is particularly close to my heart as we have had a number of Christmas hospital experiences, whether it involved Kane’s NICU start, his heart surgery the next year or Mav’s RSV isolation the year after.
You may remember this next little guy from last year’s Light the House post. Raheem is back at the House and his mom, Antoinette, was excited to get some more Christmas shots of him now that he’s standing and we couldn’t leave out his sweet ride!
Wishing all the families, staff and volunteers at RMHCNA a Merry Christmas!
