Helping Daddy

I have a lot of things I’m finishing up for the final two weeks of Colie James’ course, The Business of Telling Stories. Over the next little while you will probably see some updates to my blog layout, as well as some storytelling sessions I have done for other families. But for now, you get to see my bonus assignment. The only requirement was that we needed to tell a story outside of our house. Today presented the perfect opportunity. Following the Seahawks game, Daddy needed a little labour therapy, so we all headed outside and made the biggest pile of leaves ever!  1018-Leaves-006 1018-Leaves-014

The light in our front yard in the late afternoon is amazing!

Favourite shot! I wish there was a little more separation between my two subjects, but it's hard to guard Maverick on the stairs and change angles!

Kane looks angelic here, doesn’t he? Little does the viewer know, but while I went in to order pizza Kane felt there was no other option than to poop in his pants. When asked where he should poop, he can tell you “poop in poddy”. Anyway that explains his random new outfit in the rest of the photos. There are no images of this side story because I don’t deal with poop while holding my camera!

I wasn’t fast enough to get this shot as sharp as I would have liked, but it’s an important one to the story.

Kane was a big helper throughout the whole process and I wanted to mention that he loved getting tossed in the leaves even if you don’t get that impression from his face in the previous shot.

I took this video on an iPhone. I love Kane’s giggle in the middle of this. And the other voice you can hear is our next door neighbour who came to check out the amazing leaf pile!

Look back through the photos and check out where Maverick is looking in each of the photos when he is by himself. I love the way his line of sight foreshadows the action in the story. Or maybe it’s that once he sees something interesting he has to be there and the story is revolving around him!

As an aside: I shot all of this on my Nikon D90 with my 24-70mm lens and I can see a huge difference in quality since spending so much time recently with my D700 and my 35mm lens.
