This week our assignment was to not just think about our subject, but to also consider the area surrounding the subject; the negative space. I did two different shoots for this task.
I had awesome window light, but this candid was more important to me than the light. This was shot using my Nikon D700 with a 35mm 1.4 lens. My settings were ISO 1600, f/4.0, 1/60 sec. You can clearly see who the subjects are. The blanket is pretty busy, but a good point our Project 52 leader made is that negative space does not have to be void of subject matter. If you would like a better understanding of negative space, check out this article.
Then on Monday I had a strollercize class. I had a couple shots in mind, so I brought my camera and played around a little bit after the class.
The next shot is my submission for negative space from last year. Look how young Kane looks!
Next up in our blog circle is Amanda with her creative use of negative space.
