Late last week I found out about this event raising funds for the Stollery Children’s Hospital and by that time both dates in Edmonton were sold out. Damn it! But what a great way to encourage people to get out and exercise while having a blast. Participants were “color bombed” with colored cornstarch along the route so by the end of the 5K each person winds up “looking like a pack of skittles.”
This was the first year Color Me Rad has taken place in Edmonton and it was a huge success with 18,000 people participating. My friend, Krystal, and her son, Benjamin, were heading over to Northlands to cheer on dad, Erik, so I tagged along to check it out hoping for some interesting shots. Mission accomplished.
The upcoming run in Calgary is also sold out, but Vancouver, Victoria and Seattle have availability. A note of caution: the registration fee goes to covering the costs of the event and to the company organizing the run, so if participants choose to support the charity chosen for their city they need to raise additional funds. The Calgary Color Me Rad charity is Red Cross Calgary Flood Relief Fund and the link to donate is http://fundly.com/color-me-rad-red-cross-calgary-flood-relief. Otherwise, you can donate on-site on August 3rd at Canada Olympic Park.
Kane and I will definitely be participating in this event the next time it’s in Edmonton.
